When Cooper Financial Services' Christine Cooper decided to reach out to the community for help in supporting the Sunrise of Pasco domestic violence shelter, she didn't expect the response she would get.
"It's unbelievable," said Cooper. "We took a whole carload of stuff over on Friday. People are being so generous."
The Cooper Financial Services' drive is aimed at collecting toiletry items for women who are staying in the nonprofit shelter. Items being sought include soaps, perfume, makeup samples and more.
"The things that will make a woman look good and feel good about herself again," said Cooper. "That's probably the worst thing about abuse – your self-image is destroyed."
Cooper said her company decided to play host to the drive because the problem of domestic abuse is one that cuts across all socioeconomic boundaries.
"It's a horrible secret."
The drive will continue through Dec. 15 at 5420 Land O' Lakes Blvd., Suite 101. Residents can drop off their donations during normal business hours. For information, call (813) 996-6100.
Sunrise of Pasco has been serving the victims of domestic violence since 1982. For more information on the shelter and its programs, visit sunrisepasco.org.
