During the period of Oct. 29 through Nov. 5, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office booked an estimated 279 people into custody countywide. Here are a few recent arrests:
Pepper Spray Ends Would-Be Battle
A Dade City police officer shut down a would-be attacker's attempt to pick a fight by squirting him with pepper spay.
According to police reports, the officer was called out to a fight in progress at 2:08 a.m. on Nov. 1 at the La Onda dance club, 37518 Lock St. When he arrived on the scene, other officers were surrounded by a group of men. The officer told the suspect to step away from the group. The suspect refused and then tried to pick a fight with the officer.
The suspect verbally assaulted the officer and then "took off his hat and shirt, clenched his fist and took a fighting stance," the report states.
The officer pulled out his department-issued pepper spray and ended the entanglement before it started. Arrested was Jesus Hernandez, 21, of 34943 Baxter Ave. in Dade City. He was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and assault on a law enforcement officer. He was released from the Land O' Lakes detention center on $5,150 bond.
Prescription Fraud Lands Man In Jail
A Dade City man faces prescription fraud charges following multiple attempts to obtain Oxycontin with a stolen prescription pad.
According to Dade City police, the suspect attempted to fill an invalid prescription for the painkiller at Walgreens, 12807 U.S. 301, on Oct. 19. On the same day, he also made an attempt to fill a fake prescription at Winn-Dixie, 12649 U.S. 301. On Nov. 3, the suspect returned to the Walgreens where he tried to obtain 60 more tablets using a photo copied prescription.
The doctor involved in the case said the prescriptions were not authorized. Following arrest, the suspect said he had taken a prescription blank from his doctor's office and tried to use it to obtain more medication.
Arrested on multiple drug-related charges was Jon Stanley, 49, of 13645 Sheilalynn Court in Dade City. As of press time, he remained in the Land O' Lakes detention center on more than $20,000 bond.
Neighborhood Watch Call Lands Drug Arrest
When the Lexington Oaks Neighborhood Watch called the Pasco County Sheriff's Office Nov. 4 about a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood, they thought they had stopped a potential burglar in his tracks. While this didn't turn out to be the case, the call still netted an arrest.
According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, a call came in around midnight from the neighborhood watch group about a suspicious vehicle driving slowly through the community. Responding to the call, the deputy pulled over the suspicious vehicle on a traffic stop. The driver told the deputy he was in the neighborhood delivering papers. That story seemed to check out, so the deputy told the suspect he was free to go. Before the man left, however, the deputy asked to search the vehicle. The suspect agreed.
During the search, the deputy discovered a metal pipe that tested positive for cocaine.
Arrested on possession charges was Terry Simonds, 38, of 15202 N. 21st St. in Dade City. He remained in the Land O' Lakes detention center on $5,150 bond as of press time.
