After years of having to visit Miami to get his smoothie fix, Tony Espinal decided it was time to open his own smoothie shop a little closer to home.
Espinal opened Supreme Smoothie - the franchise he couldn't get enough of in Miami - in Land O' Lakes at the Wilderness Commons South Shopping Center about a month ago.
"When I moved here two years ago, I knew I wanted to bring something to the neighborhood," Espinal said. "I looked around for different franchises and I noticed that all the other smoothie shops lacked something where Supreme Smoothie had it all. We have a three-fold concept with food, smoothies and supplements."
The shop, 7016 Land O' Lakes Blvd., offers smoothies in 32 flavors from coffee flavored to fruit flavored, even peanut butter-and-jelly flavored, a favorite of regular customer Daniel White. Patrons can also customize each smoothie with a variety of supplements from antioxidants to a multivitamin to a fat burner.
"I love that place, I go there six times a week," White said. "Everything tastes good and it is a very clean place with really friendly service. I think they have a good variety, so far I have been able to get a different smoothie every time I go."
In addition to providing smoothies, the shop also has a variety of sandwiches available including veggie, tuna, turkey, eggplant and chicken all available in a panini, pita, wrap, on a Kaiser roll or croissant.
Janice Snow, vice president of sales and marketing for Wilderness Commons' owners, Lindell Properties, said she loves the food at the new shop.
"The food is really good," Snow said. "I had a chicken pita and everything tasted so fresh. It is one of the very few places you can get fresh, natural, healthy food in a decent portion. I also like that it is open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner."
Wilderness Commons South Shopping Center, located on Land O' Lakes Blvd. just south of Gator Lane, is only 40 percent leased out. So far the Papa John's, the Color Nails & Spa, and Santiago Hoyos, a pediatrician, have opened. A Beef O' Brady's is on the way soon.
"We are actively leasing out the rest of the center," Snow said. "We are hoping to get a cellular service store, an ice cream shop, a coffee shop and maybe a bank or a dry cleaner. This shopping center is wildlife-themed with a nice conservation area where patrons can sit and just enjoy the fresh air. It is a great shopping center where 45,000 people drive by everyday."
