Lighthouse Preschool won't open its doors officially until August 2009, but its founders are ready to give parents a sneak preview of what they can expect. The school has set an open house for Feb. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Owned by Jeff and Heather Olsen of Wesley Chapel, the 6416 Boyette Road facility is a home-based preschool.
Heather Olsen has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Florida and has taught kindergarten in Hillsborough County for two years. Her husband, Jeff, is the lead pastor at Grace Community Church of Wesley Chapel. They have four daughters ages 3, 5, 7 and 9.
Lighthouse will be an academically focused preschool, said Heather Olsen. It will serve students ages 3-4 with classes offered on two different schedules. Three-year-olds will attend a two-day program each week. Four-year-olds will attend a three-day program. Each program will accept only six students, which means there will be a one-to-six teacher to student ratio, she said.
While preparing children for academic success will be the main goal of Lighthouse, Heather Olsen said students will gain from other experiences at the school. It will also offer biblical enrichment and a creative environment.
Parents interested in learning more about Lighthouse may attend the open house where they can tour the school and ask questions of the Olsens. They will accept applications for enrollment during that time.
