As early voting began today, Pasco County residents experienced long lines at many of the seven early voting locations around the county. At some locations, such as the New River Library in Wesley Chapel near Zephyrhills, the line was out the door. "[Turnout] is way higher than anyone anticipated," Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley said. About 30,000 Pasco County residents voted early in 2004 and Corley said he expects to top that number this year. ...more

Some made your standard scarecrow. And then there was Fred Astaire, the dashing dancer, a baby scarecrow and even teenage scarecrows. Folks stuffed and created all ilks at Saturday's Scarecrow Festival in Dade City. The event was sponsored by Dade City Main Street Inc. and folks could create a scarecrow for 50 cents. ...more

Pasco residents are fortunate to have a county commission that works well together. Teamwork will be needed to tackle the economic challenges facing the county, which for too long has relied upon residential building and sends nearly half its workforce to other counties for jobs. ...more
